Acid Reflux Drugs come under FDA Scrutiny

Filed under: acid reflux — admin @ 10:00 am

During August 2007 the FDA stated that a review for safety reasons had begun for 2 PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitors)drugs - Prilosec and Nexium. This was due to 2 studies which looked at using these drugs in comparison to having surgery for the severe form of gastroesophageal reflux disease.

There are a lot of sites which state that they have Acid Reflux Breakthroughs or Treatments which work, the majority of these are useless, but these are worth a look:

  1. Acid Reflux and Diet
  2. Stop Acid Reflux Now

An initial response from the study was that using these drugs could be associated with increased cardiovascular disease but later analysis showed that this may be caused by a bias in the study stats.

The final outcome from the study will be available in approximately 3 months.

The FDA isn’t suggesting that the drugs be used in a different way but is trying to be more transparent on possible issues of safety.
